Just under a week, then Eintracht will start their fourth attempt to win the first Bundesliga game of the new season.

The opponent on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. is in front of a maximum of 25,000 spectators from VfB Stuttgart.

A team that has so far gone through a roller coaster ride - with one big win (5: 1 against Fürth) and two defeats (0: 4 in Leipzig, 2: 3 against Freiburg).

Even with Eintracht, not everything has gone according to plan so far - and there are reasons for that.

The team is not yet in harmony, there are deficiencies in the front and in the back.

But there are also positive things.

Players who should also play an important role in coach Oliver Glasner's future plans and who should form the framework for the new Eintracht.

Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp

The keeper has been a reliable constant for years.

It is well deserved that he regularly belongs to the group of goalkeepers who are invited to the national team.

But Trapp can do more.

Occasionally minor mishaps happen to him that can cause greater harm - such as a failed pass in the game against Augsburg, which almost led to a goal due to a resulting lift.

Trapp has taken another boost in his development with the goalkeeping coach change from Manfred Petz to Jan Zimmermann.

His aim must be to concede significantly fewer goals in the new season than in the previous season (53).

Defense chief Martin Hinteregger

In the past, repeatedly plagued by depression, as the Austrian explains in a verbal one-two with a journalist in book form, it became clear in the still young season: Hinteregger should, unlike Austria's embarrassing 5-2 defeat in the World Cup qualification in Israel, be the tower in the surf.

One who has long been one of the indispensable and is also promoted and challenged under his second Austrian Bundesliga coach Glasner.

His position within the team has risen again this summer, because as the deputy of captain Sebastian Rode he is highly regarded by his teammates.

Driver Djibril Sow

The Swiss finally packed it.

He is an indispensable part of the starting XI of Eintracht.

He did not do this with words - “I want to take on more responsibility” - but with deeds.

Game intelligence, fighting spirit, willingness to run - all of this is true with him.

What is also missing is the danger in front of the opposing goal.

His previous yield in two years in Frankfurt (one and zero) can be greatly improved.

Newcomer Ajdin Hrustic

From follower to co-creator.

The Australian with Bosnian roots has so far impressively shown that performance pays off.

Since Glasner has been leading the fortunes of Eintracht as a trainer, he has relied on Hrustics' services in midfield headquarters.

In the past season, Hrustic could not prevail, came to eleven missions and scored a magic goal while sitting.

This year everything should be different and much better.

Crossing champion Filip Kostic

After its attempt to say goodbye to Eintracht on strike has crashed, the club will continue to rely on the services of the Serbs in the future.

Those responsible have forgiven him for his damaging behavior, as have his teammates.

Since Kostic has been running up and down the left line in Frankfurt, crossing reliably and not being stingy with goals, he has been one of the favorites and outstanding forces.

The latest example of his creative power are two templates that Kostic gave at the weekend in the 4-1 victory in the national team against Luxembourg.

Against the old Stuttgart comrades Kostic can show next Sunday that it also works in the dress of unity.

Attacker Sam Lammers

The new hope for a striker comes from Italy, is Dutch and is supposed to do what others, such as Rafael Borré, have so far been unable to do: score goals reliably and from all angles. Whether with your head or with your foot: Lammers should deliver. In return, Eintracht loaned him from Atalanta Bergamo for a year. Unlike, for example, offensive colleague Jens Petter Hauge, who is also on loan from Italy, Eintracht has no subsequent purchase option at Lammers.

Sports director Markus Krösche and coach Glasner want the cooperation to be limited to one season. In the ongoing pandemic, when the millions in the Bundesliga are no longer gushing as abundantly as usual, economic sense is required. Sportive success is still possible - if everything fits, the harmony in all parts of the team and the professionals who have played a special role in the focus do not become fickle.
