The Moroccan national team is stuck in Guinea, but it is "safe"

A Moroccan official said Sunday that his country's football team is "safe" in the Guinean capital Conakry, which is witnessing a military coup and chaos amid allegations of the arrest of President Alpha Conde and the "dissolution" of state institutions by officers from the special forces.

Mohamed Maqrouf of the Moroccan Football Federation told AFP that the members of the national team, which was supposed to face Guinea on Monday in the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, "are safe and are currently in a hotel away from tensions."

He added that the federation is "working to evacuate the team today (Sunday). There is a plane waiting for it at the airport."
