Anju Furuya, a 26-year-old who participated in the Tokyo Para-Athletics 1500 meters for the first time, aimed for the first medal of a Japanese player in the intellectual disability class, but unfortunately did not reach it and finished 4th.

Furuya, who has developmental disabilities and is not good at complicated exercise and situational awareness, started athletics at the age of 16 when he received a certificate at a marathon event at a special school.



In the first Paralympic Games, the final on the 3rd, Furuya showed his strength at the start and jumped out immediately after the start, pulling the race.



However, the pace gradually slowed down from the middle of the race, and after the last lap, they were overtaken by the two who were behind.



He showed tenacity in 3rd place, but was overtaken by a British player in the final corner and finished 4th with a time of 4: 38.58.



Furuya aimed for the first Japanese medal in the intellectual disability class, but unfortunately did not reach it.



After the race, he said, "I had to attack from the beginning to get the time, so I attacked from the beginning. I was in 3rd place in the last lap, so I was disappointed in 4th place, but I was able to finish it."

Sayaka Makita, who also participated, was 6th at 4: 54.60, and Moeko Yamamoto was 7th at 4: 55.03.



The gold medal is Poland's Barbara Bieganovska Zayatsu, who has won the Paralympic Games for the third time in a row.
