Hansi Flick's debut is a success, but the meager 2-0 win against Liechtenstein does not cause enthusiasm.

He speaks at the press conference after the national soccer team's game in World Cup qualification on Thursday evening in Sankt Gallen.

What is the conclusion after your debut as national coach?

Without a doubt, we would all have wished we had scored more goals.

The Liechtenstein team defended very well.

In the first few minutes we missed the fact that we could score an early goal and thus gain confidence.

In the second half, the team really tried to keep up the pace.

Unfortunately, it was only enough for two goals.

It was just a beginning that we weren't entirely happy with.

But I can't blame the team.

After three training sessions, not everything worked.

Liechtenstein coach Martin Stocklasa said that your team lacked the right solutions.

What was that?

Yes, the right solution is right.

We also hoped that we would better play off the attacks.

After 20 minutes we had a very slow pace at times.

We were often in the penalty area, where ten Liechtensteiners and an excellent goalkeeper were there.

We have to do it like Jamal Musiala did on the first goal with an excellent individual performance: Confidently go into a dribble.

Timo Werner had an excellent run.

The goal was played very well.

What is still missing from the team at the moment?

What you can tell is that the team doesn't have that confidence that they can score goals.

There is tremendous quality there, without question.

And I understand that the fans in Germany may be a little disappointed with the result.

But it was a start.

We all know we still have a way to go.

But there were three points that were important to us.

We have an important game against leaders Armenia on Sunday.

We can then pass by.

We want to harmonize even better offensively.

The defensive work was fine against the ball.

Did your list already have meaningfulness?

Was that based on the principle of performance in some positions or was it also about controlling the load with regard to the next two games?

Sure, we needed stability.

But we also wanted to make sure that one or the other player who was under a lot of pressure recently doesn't have to play three games.

You said the team is not convinced that they will score the goals.

Some players often perform better in clubs than in the national team.

How can you as a trainer approach that so that self-confidence grows again?

I am thinking, for example, of Ilkay Gündogan.

The way it is, we talk to the players a lot.

And it also depends on what happens in the training work.

The quality of the training is excellent.

But in the end it counts on the pitch.

We have to deliver when it counts.

We won the game against an opponent that you normally have to win higher against.

It is a process that we go through together.

We will try to provide the players with solutions.

You let Timo Werner and Leroy Sané play from the start, who recently had problems in their clubs.

Was it also about instilling self-confidence in them.

And did that happen thanks to the goals you scored?

They have already shown what quality they are.

With the first goal, Timo had an excellent run.

He also tried again and again to start in depth.

It was also difficult to get through the last pass against such a tight defense.

At 1-0 it worked out well.

Leroy has just had a few actions in the second half, where he followed up and won the ball.

He did very well in the 2-0 win.

He went one-on-one and finished well.

These are the things he can do.

He has shown that he is on a really good path.

Jamal Musiala did very well, you said.

With his skills, is he already a starting XI candidate in every game?

We have to see that depending on how we want to go into the game. That Jamal has a quality, he has impressively demonstrated at Bayern Munich in the last year or even in the last few weeks, and today also with his action in preparing the goal for Timo Werner. So Jamal is always an option.
