Japan defeated Australia 61-55 in the men's wheelchair basketball quarterfinals at the Tokyo Paralympics, deciding to advance to the semifinals for the first time in this event.

Japan, which passed the men's wheelchair basketball qualifying league in 2nd place in the group with 4 wins and 1 loss, played against Australia in the quarterfinals held at Ariake Arena in Koto-ku, Tokyo on the 1st.



In the early stages, Japan finished the first quarter with a 14-14 tie with a defense that put pressure on tall opponents to keep them out of the goal.



In the second quarter, Hiroaki Kasai caught the flow with a three-point shot and turned back the first half with a 35:30 and a 5-point lead.



In the third quarter, he accumulated points with a speedy attack centered on Renshi Toriumi, and expanded the lead to 47 to 39 and 8 points.



In the final 4th quarter, Australia, who showed tenacity, was forced to make a two-point difference, but Ace Fujimoto Reo scored a series of shots and won 61-55, making Japan the first in this event. I decided to advance to the semi-finals.



The semi-finals will take place on the 3rd, when Japan will face the bronze medal England at the last Rio de Janeiro Games.
