The Central African Republic (CAR) national team saved themselves a bad start in qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Fauves du Bas-Oubangui indeed drew 1-1 against Cape Verde on September 1, 2021 after a meeting relocated to Douala

Technically superior Cape Verdeans

Central Africans have long suffered in the face of technically superior Cape Verdeans.

This superiority materialized in the 36th minute of this first game in Group C. With a worked pass, midfielder Kenny Rocha Santos then served Julio Tavares at the penalty spot.

The attacker takes the ball with the flat of the foot and opens the scoring: 0-1.

In the second period, fortunately for the RCA and its coach Raoul Savoy (recently returned to this post), Trésor Toropité equalizes.

In the 53rd minute, on a shot badly repelled by the Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha, the midfielder followed and scored at close range and against the course of the game: 1-1.

Until Nigeria-Liberia

Under the Cameroonian rain, the two selections split on this score of parity.

The other Group C meeting will pit Nigeria against Liberia on September 3 in Lagos.

During the second day of this group stage, the matches will be Liberia-RCA (September 6) and Cape Verde-Nigeria (September 7).
