The General Assembly of the Basketball Association adopts the statute.. and a recommendation to increase the members of the Council

The Extraordinary General Assembly of the UAE Basketball Association approved the amended statute of the federation, which is in line with the "Governance Guide for Sports Federations" launched by the General Sports Authority in cooperation with the National Olympic Committee last June.

This came in the meeting, which was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai, and was attended by the President of the UAE and Arab Basketball Federations, Major General Ismail Al Gergawi, Executive Director of the National Olympic Committee Muhammad Saeed bin Darwish, Director of the Sports Federations Affairs Department of the National Olympic Committee Butti Al Abdouli, and Director of the Oversight Office The Finance Authority of the General Sports Authority Abdul Aziz Al-Hussan, the members of the General Assembly, and the representatives of the member clubs of the Association.

A positive atmosphere prevailed in the association, by members under the umbrella of the federation, before the amendments to the system were voted on by 13 out of the 15 clubs that represent the quorum of the general assembly, and they are entitled to vote.

Al Gergawi called on the members of the General Assembly to increase the number of members from 9 to 11 in the upcoming elections, so that 9 members would be elected, in exchange for appointing the president of the Federation for the other two members, provided that they were chosen in the interest of the game, whether in the technical, legal or material aspects.

Al Gergawi said: "The meeting is an important step towards correcting the course in the game, to provide legislative frameworks to move towards a better future, while being keen to confront future challenges," noting the need to think seriously, positively and effectively in the coming period, especially in light of the current repercussions of the "Coronavirus" pandemic. The number of clubs practicing the game has decreased, and other clubs have moved away from the competition.
