After two years in the Netherlands, a new chapter is now waiting for Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The left-back has signed for French Lille, who won Ligue 1 last year, the club announces.

The contract extends until the summer of 2026.

- Hi the supporters, my name is Gabriel Gudmundsson, I am really happy to be here and I look forward to seeing you at the stadium, the player says in a presentation video.

Gudmundsson previously had a more offensive starting position and usually played as a left-back midfielder.

Last year, he was retrained as a left-back and has impressed.

The 22-year-old, with national team merits at U21 level, spent 2016-2019 in Halmstads BK before moving to the Netherlands.

On Janne Andersson's radar

When the Swedish national team captain Janne Andersson presented his squad for the World Cup qualifier recently, Gudmundsson was not present.

But according to Andersson, they follow the player.

- We have a pretty good view of "Gabbe", said the league captain.
