The first period between the USA and Finland ended goalless, but it was a clue as to what this match would look like.

The Americans were dominant, winning the shots 15-4 in the first 20 minutes and it was only one big player, Anni Keisala, in the goal who kept the Finns away from an inferiority situation.

However, the goals would come early in the second.

Alexandra Carpenter gave the United States the lead early in the middle period before 19-year-old Abbey Murphy filled in with four minutes left.

Finland had a hard time creating chances and even though the deficit was no more than two goals before the final period, it was a reassuring lead that the USA could control.

The Finns gave it an honest chance and picked their goalkeeper already with 3.5 minutes left to play to crack the goal zero forward.

But then it called back shortly afterwards when Kendall Coyne set the final score at 3-0.

"No top match"

The Swedish national team captain, Ulf Lundberg, was in SVT's studio during the semi-finals.

He believes that Finland could have given the United States a proper match - if it had really gone for it.

- I think the Finnish girls feel that if they had reached a slightly higher level, they would have had the chance.

SVT's expert, Maria Rooth, agrees:

- If we look at the entire semifinal, the USA will not make a top match.

But you stand for an effort that is good enough to win, says Rooth.

The second World Cup semi-final will be played at 01.00 Swedish time between Switzerland and Canada.

A match that SVT broadcasts and that you can watch on SVT1 or on SVT Play.
