Alex Norén has played well this week, and the fine golf continued on Sunday.

-6 on the scorecard, few could match, and the result was enough for a split ninth place at Owings Mills in Maryland.

But that was not enough to continue playing in the playoffs, where the top 30 will play in the tour final in Atlanta next weekend, Norén finishes 33rd.

From the first tee during the playoffs, the Swede had the conditions clear for him - play well or take an early holiday.

He entered last week as 91st and climbed after fourth place then up to 43rd place, and thus among the top 70 who got to play this weekend.

Millions in the pot

To get to the top 30, a result at the same level had been required, and that was it.

Seven birdies on Sunday improved Saturday's twelfth place - but then came the final 18th hole.

The entry from just over 150 meters ended up in a green bunker and in the end it became a bogey on the hole.

A birdie there, two strokes smaller, would probably have been enough for Alex Norén with a sixth place to sneak in on the right side 30-dash.

He has thus played clearly in the playoffs, and the battle for the really big checks and now the Norwegian Viktor Hovland will be the only Nordic participant next weekend.

Norén's 33rd place gives 190,000 dollars, small money against the final winner's 15 million dollars, or almost 130 million kronor.

Six hole special game

That check is Patrick Cantlay right now closest to putting the golf gloves on.

The American leads the Fedex ranking after winning the BMW Championships outside Baltimore.

The victory was far from over.

Only after six holes in a special game against Bryson DeChambeau could he win with a new birdie, go up in the lead in the Fedex playoffs and get a little closer to the overall victory in this year's PGA Tour.

Closest behind are Tony Finau and just DeChambeau.

The two, like everyone else, start several strokes after Cantlay in Atlanta, where one starts at ten under par, which is then gradually reduced down to the 30th man, who starts the competition at par.
