Manchester City extends the contract of "The Rock" until 2027

Manchester City has extended the contract of its Portuguese international defender Ruben Diaz, nicknamed "The Defensive Rock", for six years, which will keep him with the team until 2027, the English Premier League champions announced on Monday.

The 24-year-old arrived at the Etihad Stadium last summer from Benfica, and imposed himself as a very influential element in the squad of Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, where he participated in 50 matches in all competitions, and contributed to leading the team to the Premier League title and retaining the League Cup title, in addition to reaching the The Champions League final for the first time in its history.

Diaz was rewarded for his efforts with Guardiola's team, with the Sports Editors Association award for the best player of the season, as well as the award for the best player in the Premier League, which is awarded annually by a committee formed by the official sponsor of the league and includes experts, media and fans.

Diaz said, according to what was quoted by the club's official website, "I am very happy to sign a new contract. I have enjoyed every moment of my time with City since joining him last year," revealing that "playing with City exceeded all my expectations and it is a great pleasure to be a part of this." The wonderful team."

"Robben's new contract is great news for the club. It is true that he has only been with us for less than a year, but Robben has proven to be a very vital part of our team," said Spanish sporting director Tchke Begiristain.

The Portuguese had signed in late September 2020 a six-year contract in a deal estimated at 68 million euros.
