A team of four men in their 90s living in Aomori Prefecture participated in the 400-meter and 1600-meter relays at the athletics competition, setting a time that far exceeded the world record of the same age group.

The organizers of the tournament will apply for the certification of a new world record.

The "Aomori Masters Athletics Championships" was held in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture on the 29th, and about 130 people aged 23 to 92 participated.

Of these, Matashiro Tsuruga (92), Yuzo Kudo (92), Kozo Mitsuya (90), and Hiroo Tanaka (90), who live in Aomori Prefecture, are 400 meters in the 90-94 age class. I participated in the relay and the 1600m relay.

Hirosaki City on the 29th was extremely hot with the maximum temperature rising to nearly 30 degrees Celsius, but at the 400m relay, the baton was smoothly connected and the goal was 1 minute 43 seconds 69, a world record of 2 minutes 22 of the same age. It exceeded seconds 37 by nearly 40 seconds.

Approximately two and a half hours later, I challenged the 1600m relay, and with great cheers, I ran the track hard and completed in 9 minutes 56 seconds 36, the world of the same age that the American team put out in 2014. It surpassed the record by more than 2 minutes and 45 seconds.

In this event, the four of them set a good time of 8 minutes 49 seconds 01 in May, but at this time there was no other team that participated, including other age groups, so it set a new world record. Was not recognized.

The tournament organizer says that this time it meets the conditions for being certified as a new world record, and will soon apply for two records to the Japan Masters Athletics Union.

Mr. Tsuruga said, "We were able to set a good record by working together with four people. It's fun to run, so I want to continue until I'm 100 years old."
