Shishmarev died on the 20th anniversary of one of the saddest episodes in Russian football. On August 28, 2001, the Ukrainian CSKA goalkeeper Sergei Perkhun died. Ten days earlier, during the match with Anji, he unsuccessfully collided with Budun Budunov, trying to hit the ball flying in their direction. Perhun received a blow to the temporal bone, which led to traumatic brain injury and cerebral edema. Doctors of the Burdenko Institute of Neurosurgery fought for the life of the goalkeeper, who played only 13 matches for CSKA, but already managed to please the fans thanks to his excellent game. Both Perkhun and Shishmarev died at the age of 23.
