At the age of 24, Higuchi suffered a spinal cord injury in a traffic accident and became a wheelchair. He started athletics, and has participated in the Paralympics for three consecutive tournaments.



The 5000 meters was the event that finished 4th in the previous Rio de Janeiro tournament, and the final on the night of the 28th, which aimed to win the long-sought medal, was contested by 10 people who passed the qualifying.



Higuchi asked for a chance by putting him behind the group until the middle of the race, but he couldn't keep up when the pace suddenly increased in the last two laps, and finished in 8th place with a time of 10 minutes 31 seconds 28 seconds.
