18-year-old Maja Åskag has had a fantastic athletics year.

First, she took junior European Championship gold in both long jump and triple jump, and recently followed it up by doing the same in the junior WC.

Today, the Råby-Rekarne jumper hoped to take gold in the Swedish Championships, in three steps.

Last hope best

But there it was "only" silver, on the result 13.44.

It was a length she reached first in the sixth and final jump, which made her advance from third to second place.

- She makes a nice effort.

Her absolute goal this year has been the junior championships, and to recharge before a European Championship and then recharge for a World Cup, it takes effort, says SVT Sports expert Alhaji Jeng.

Tangled annual best

Aina Griksaite, Spårvägen, won in the rain.

The one born and raised in Sweden, but competing for Lithuania, won at 13.78 - almost the best of the year for her.

- I felt that the form exists, but of course it was very difficult weather conditions today.

But I tried not to think about it but just think about jumping right, she tells SVT Sport.

"Incredible results"

Griksaite, who broke his elbow four months ago, was of course very pleased to have taken gold and defeated Maja Åskag.

- Maja makes incredible results all summer.

She may not have made it today, the last time she jumped was probably last week, so I can imagine that it was difficult to reload, says Griksaite.
