The Tokyo Paralympics will start on land on the 27th, and the wooden clubs made by high school students in Tokyo will be used for the first time in the Parasports original competition "Club Throw".

Club throwing is a Parasports-specific competition in which athletes with weak grip strength and difficulty in throwing guns and throwing cans sit on a pedestal and throw wooden clubs to compete for distance. The Paralympic Games will start on the 27th.

Since the Games Organizing Committee and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government did not have a manufacturer of sticks in Japan, we asked students to learn woodworking furniture manufacturing techniques on a part-time basis at Tokyo Metropolitan Kogei High School in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, and made them in March last year. , 20 pieces to be used in the tournament have been completed.

The finished club is a wooden stick that is approximately 40 cm long and weighs 397 grams, similar to a bowling pin.

Based on the students' ideas, four different types of handles, such as spherical and cylindrical, were created so that they can be easily gripped by hands of various sizes and obstacles.

The students learned about the competition and spent about eight months building it, referring to the clubs borrowed from the Organizing Committee.

Many of the students graduated last year, and one of the club makers, Naoto Nishizawa, said, "I made it the easiest to think about the players. After seeing the opening ceremony, I made a club. I'm looking forward to reviving my feelings when I'm there. "
