Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City, announced his intention to leave his current team and explore opportunities at the international level when his contract expires at the end of next season.

Guardiola took over Manchester City in July 2016, and is currently in the penultimate year of his contract.

After taking over as coach of the team, succeeding Manuel Pellegrini, the former Barcelona coach won 3 Premier League titles, 4 League Cup and FA Cup titles during his tenure as the team's coach.

Guardiola, 50, revealed that he does not plan to extend his stay with the "Citizens", and that he is targeting the opportunity to coach a national team.

And the "philosopher" said - in a press interview - that "after spending 7 years with this team, I think I should stop .. I will take a break, see what I have accomplished, and review my passion" and my priorities then.

"In the process, I would like to coach one of the teams, from South America, or Europe, playing in the Copa America, I want to have that experience."

However, Guardiola played down talk of his chances of succeeding Tite as coach of the Brazilian national team.

Pep feels that the current group of Brazilian stars are being unfairly compared to previous stars, but he stressed that the Brazilian team will be one of the favorites to win the World Cup, which will be held next year in Qatar.

He explained, "The current teams will always lose in front of history. If you compare the current Brazilian team, with Gil Pele and with the team that won the World Cup in 1994, the current team will always lose... But if you ask me what I think of Tite's team: it is wonderful. Some of them are players I trained, and some of them play in Competitive teams, but they are great."

He concluded, "If you compare them with the past, the teams will always win because they are not playing now. But the Brazilian national team is a permanent candidate, to win the Copa America and the World Cup. They have always been candidates and always will remain favourites. It is part of their culture. I think the Brazilian coach will remain. Always in Brasilia, I don't see foreign coaches coaching teams like Brazil."
