The Professional Football League (LFP) said Monday that it "strongly condemns the violence" that occurred during the Nice-Marseille meeting on Sunday evening in Ligue 1, "extremely serious" facts according to it.

Why has the meeting not resumed?

The LFP also assured that the decision to resume the match after the invasion of the field by spectators and clashes between supporters, players and members of the club management, had been taken by the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, " in order to guarantee public order ”and“ the safety ”of spectators.

"The LFP aligned itself as always with this position," she explains.

This match of the 3rd day of Ligue 1 could not however resume, the OM players not wanting to appear on the lawn, more than 90 minutes after leaving it, in the 75th minute of the match, when their midfielder Dimitri Payet received a plastic bottle on his back, the starting point for the incidents.

The two clubs convened by the disciplinary committee of the LFP

While an investigation was opened by the Nice prosecutor's office, the LFP is for its part responsible for establishing disciplinary sanctions concerning this meeting.

"The Disciplinary Commission of the LFP is now in charge of this file," she assured, while the two clubs are summoned to this Wednesday.

The Commission will be in charge of the three disciplinary aspects of the case: the behavior of the Nice supporters, which can lead to sanctions for OGC Nice (closing of stands, withdrawal of points, etc.), that of the players in the game (players, management , managers…) who could be sanctioned with matches or periods of suspension, and finally the fate of the match (score maintained, defeat on the green carpet, match to be replayed…).

In general, for this type of case, it puts the case under investigation and renders its decisions within two to three weeks.

Provisional measures may nevertheless be pronounced, such as the closing of stands or suspensions as a precaution.

OGC Nice condemns "the irresponsible attitude of several members of the Marseille club"

OGC Nice condemned Monday in a statement the bottle throwing which took place Sunday during the Nice-Marseille match but also ruled that "the tipping point" had been "the irresponsible attitude of several members of the Marseille club" .

According to the OGCN, "nothing excuses the throwing of the bottle of which several isolated individuals are guilty" but "the fact remains that the tipping point is the irresponsible attitude of several members of the Marseille club".

After more than an hour and a half of interruption, the match was definitively stopped on Sunday evening when Nice led 1-0, OM refusing to return to the field.
