On the hoped-for path to more consistency, Borussia Dortmund suffered a setback early on.

The cup winners around Erling Haaland and Marco Reus had to admit defeat at SC Freiburg 1: 2 (0: 1) on Saturday and took the next disillusionment after the Supercup defeat against FC Bayern.

Vincenzo Grifo (6th minute) caused cheers from the vast majority of the 10,100 spectators early on with a free-kick that was well worth seeing.

Roland Sallai shocked Dortmund at the beginning of the second half (53rd).

Freiburg's Yannik Keitel scored an own goal for BVB (59th).

The dominant Dortmund team did not come close to the offensive vortex of 5: 2 at the start of the Bundesliga against Frankfurt. After eight league victories, the Westphalia conceded a defeat and missed a club record. Fluctuations and point losses with supposed outsiders, recently experienced regularly, should actually be a thing of the past with the new coach Marco Rose.

The Champions League participant had to run after a deficit early on. SC captain Christian Günter had received applause before kick-off - when the announcement was made that he would become the Freiburg record player with his 237th Bundesliga game. In the hosts' first goal scene, Günter was also ready for the free kick. But it was the Italian international Grifo, who gave BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel no chance with his famous shot at the inside post from around 25 meters and caused the fans to chant "Oh, how is that beautiful". BVB right-back Felix Passlack had previously fouled Lucas Höler.

At the start of the farewell tour in the Dreisamstadion, spectators were again admitted to Freiburg for the first time since September, and the move to the new stadium is to take place in mid-October.

And the Freiburg fans saw how the hosts' defensive skilfully narrowed the rooms, but the Dortmunders also remained too unimaginative.

The SC was lucky when Jude Bellingham hit the post with his head after about half an hour.

The 18-year-old had already missed the compensation (11th).

When starting XI debutant Donyell Malen wanted to use attacking colleague Haaland, the Freiburg defense came in between (28th).

On the other hand, Nico Schlotterbeck with the head (30th) and Wooyeong Jeong (32nd) could even have increased.

Guest coach Marco Rose reacted before the break and brought the last ailing Raphael Guerreiro for Nico Schulz.

Like the German internationals Mats Hummels, Emre Can and Julian Brandt, Guerreiro was one of the returnees who relaxed the personnel situation.

But it hadn't been enough for any of the starters.

Immediately after the break, Roland Sallai missed the great opportunity.

A few minutes later he made it better: Dortmund lost the ball on the offensive - and then things went fast on the other side, with Höler's cross from Jeong and Sallai.

The joy of the 2-0 was short-lived: Passlack's cross should reach Bellingham, but Freiburg midfielder Keitel maneuvered the ball over his own line. Attacking force Haaland was unsuccessful this time - on his good opportunity to equalize, the striker rushed over the gate (68th). In the end, Baden celebrated their second Bundesliga home win against BVB in a row.
