Matsuyama, the only Japanese player to participate in the playoffs, made a decent start with 5 birdies, 1 bogey and 1 double bogey under 2 under, 15th place, 6 strokes behind the lead.
Matsuyama said, "I made a lot of mistakes, but I got a good putt. I'm a little tired, but if golf goes well, I'll forget it."
