Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the former number one and currently fourth, announced the end of his season due to his failure to recover from a foot injury he suffered a while ago.

"Hello everyone, I would like to tell you, unfortunately, that I will end the 2021 season," Nadal said through his official accounts on social media. "Frankly, I spent a year suffering from my feet too much."

"After a series of discussions with the staff and my family, I have made this decision, and I think it is the best thing to continue moving forward and trying to recover fully."

By announcing the end of his season, Nadal will miss the US Open, which begins on the 30th of this month.

Nadal will miss the Flushing Meadows tournament for the second year in a row, similar to his traditional rival Roger Federer, knowing that they won the title nine times (5 Federer and 4 Nadal).

Nadal finally withdrew from the Toronto tournament before meeting him in the second round, knowing that the 35-year-old Spaniard also missed the English Wimbledon Championships and the Tokyo Olympics after losing in the semi-finals of the French Roland Garros tournaments to Serbian Novak Djokovic, the world number one.

The Spanish matador also apologized for participating in the Cincinnati tournament, which is currently being held.

The world number four spoke about his enthusiasm to return in the future and said, "I have great enthusiasm and will do my best to reach the best possible level, to continue the competition with greater goals and the same big goals."
