On Friday, tennis star Rafael Nadal announced that the 2021 season is over.

The Spaniard has had a foot injury that has haunted him all season.

Most recently, just over a week ago, he was forced to withdraw from the Master Tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati.

He now also misses the US Open.

- Now I have to go home (to Mallorca) to try to get better again.

The foot does not allow me to move as I want and I can not compete at the level I need to lie at, he then told AFP.

But now he has decided that the season is over.

- Unfortunately, I have to announce that my season is over.

Honestly, I have suffered more than I should during this year because of my foot and I need to take a break, Nadal announced on Twitter.
