The International Middle School Sports Federation, the Chinese Middle School Sports Association, and the Executive Committee of the 18th World Middle School Games stated in a joint statement that the event organizers always put the safety of young athletes and all participants in the first place, taking into account the current global situation of the new crown pneumonia epidemic. And the feedback from the member units of the International Association of Sports Federations, after the tripartite consultation, it was decided to postpone the event.
In October 2017, Fujian Jinjiang won the right to host the 18th World Middle School Summer Games in 2020, which was originally scheduled to be held from October 17th to 24th, 2020. This is also the event that has been postponed again.
