After the Olympic gold in Tokyo, Armand Duplantis has had to recharge his batteries at home in Sweden and Uppsala.

Admittedly, the season is not over just because the big goal - Olympic gold - has been achieved, but the 21-year-old has had time to have some valuable time with his family.

- My vacation was to spend time with my family and girlfriend.

That's all I need.

You want to celebrate with those closest to you, the pole star tells TT.

Increases training

On Monday, Duplantis was in Helsinki where he was presented together with, among others, Daniel Ståhl as part of the new sponsorship initiative Team CapitalBox.

Once back home in Sweden, it's time to increase the training dose, because it's a hectic schedule that awaits.

Within eight days, Duplantis will compete in three Diamond League galas.

He starts in Lausanne on August 26 and two days later it is Paris that is waiting.

On September 3, he will jump in Brussels.

- I started training this week but it was easy training - now this week I will train harder, he says.

He admits that it has been something of a starting point after the Olympics.

- It has been a bit difficult to wake up again.

You have been so high on adrenaline and then you crash a little.

But I am already starting to get my motivation back, he says.

More rooted

With its success, Duplantis has become one of Sweden's most popular athletes.

The 21-year-old is also slowly but surely getting better at the Swedish language - something he has proven in various interviews during the year.

He is also more rooted in Sweden and it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to leave to travel back to Louisiana in the American south.

- I am becoming more and more comfortable, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to leave.

Maybe when the weather gets worse.

I have not really thought about it, I do not even know if I have a return ticket booked.

But when it gets too cold to play golf and train, I probably leave.

Having a Swedish girlfriend also affects?

- This means that you have a very good reason to stay.

My girlfriend is here and it has become my home.
