The Olympic final between Sweden and Canada was thrilling.

In the penalty shootout, both goalkeepers were responsible for several saves and when Caroline Seger, with the most A-international matches for Blågult, stepped forward to take the fifth and final penalty, she had the chance to shoot the gold to Sweden.

But the Swedish captain shot over and shortly afterwards it was Canada who got gold cheers.

Ten days after the final, Seger comments on the sentencing on social media.

"I have thought back and forth about what I could say, I have written down everything possible in desperate attempts to find the right words.

But I have to ignore it… I feel shit and just that day when silver could become gold, everything broke, ”she writes.

Thanks for the support

The post continues:

"Throughout my career, I have dreamed of a moment where we could do something that no one else in Swedish football has done in modern times.

Everything I had invested and sacrificed had brought me to this very moment and there I stood with the ball, which I have loved since I was 5 years old, and was a touch from becoming historic with my beloved national team.

1 minute later it was as time stood still and the emptiness grabbed me and suffocated me slowly.

That was not how it would be! ”

At the same time, she thanks for the support she has received since the Olympic final.

“You should know that all the messages and all the support and love from you have helped me enormously. Without you, I would have had a hard time seeing the light in the tunnel ”.
