Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of American boxing legend Muhammad Ali, defeated his opponent Jordan Weeks by technical knockout in his first professional boxing match last night in the US state of Oklahoma.

Nico Ali, 21, is the son of Robert Walsh and Rashida Ali Walsh, daughter of Muhammad Ali, and he signed his first professional contract last June.

Nico dropped his opponent, Weeks, in the middle of the first round of the match, before the referee stopped the fight after one minute and 49 seconds of this round.

"I definitely think a lot about my grandfather and miss him," the rising boxer was quoted by the ESPN television network.

"I think Weeks and I made some history tonight," he added.

Muhammad Ali, the owner of many achievements, died in June 2016 and was described by his grandson as "the greatest boxer to date".

"He is the greatest boxer that has appeared so far and perhaps the greatest person as well," added the young boxer, who is trying to follow in his grandfather's footsteps.
