Atsuko Maruo, a visually impaired class player, was selected as the representative of the Tokyo Paralympic Triathlon with an additional quota.

This was announced by the Japan Triathlon Union.

The representatives of the Tokyo Paralympic Triathlon are a combination of five people who have won the quotas by country at the top of the world ranking and one who has won the quotas recommended by international sports organizations based on the results of international competitions. 6 people have been selected.

This month, the IPC = International Paralympic Committee notified the Japan Paralympic Committee that it would give Atsuko Maruo, a visually impaired class player, an additional quota, and was appointed as the representative.

Maruo is 47 years old from Hokkaido.

I lost sight of my left eye at the age of three due to cataracts from the time I was born, but I continued playing basketball until college.

Although my right eye's eyesight also deteriorated, when I started the triathlon in 2012, I participated in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics and finished in 9th place.
