Klopp calls Liverpool star 'lucky'

Liverpool will miss Andy Robertson during the first weeks of the Premier League, but coach Jurgen Klopp reassured the team's fans, revealing that the left-back was lucky, after fears emerged about a greater risk of injury.

Robertson was injured during the friendly match against Athletic Bilbao, Spain, on Sunday, after spraining his ankle.

Klopp said that the team was "lucky with what happened with Andy, as it could have been much worse."

"There is no doubt that the scenes showed how bad the injury was, but we are lucky and his absence will not last long. But I do not know if he will return before the international holiday (at the beginning of September) or after."

Robertson remains optimistic about when he will return, even though he was seen outside Liverpool Hospital on Monday wearing a foot protector.

The 27-year-old posted on his Twitter account, "The x-rays did not show anything serious, but there is damage to the ligaments that will need treatment."

"I will work hard on a daily basis to be able to help the team as soon as possible," he added.

Robertson is expected to miss the matches of Norwich, Burnley and Chelsea in the Premier League, and doubts about his participation with his country against Denmark, Moldova and Austria next month in the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
