Novak Djokovic has canceled his participation in the upcoming ATP tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.
"We will miss you here, Champ," wrote the organizers on Twitter.
Djokovic, number one in tennis, has already won the tournament twice.
It starts next weekend.
Djokovic explained that he needed a little more time to recover from a rather physically demanding journey from the Australian Open to the Tokyo Games, where he was eliminated from eventual Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.
The 34-year-old Serb wrote that he is now focusing on the US Open, and that he wants to spend more time with his family.
The tournament in Cincinnati was actually planned for Djokovic after the summer games in Japan.
With the end of the Olympics Djokovic had missed the chance to win the historic "Golden Slam", but hopes after his victories at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon to win the "Grand Slam" with a success at the US Open in New York in early September.
He is also aiming for the 21st Grand Slam title of his career, with which he would overtake his long-term opponents Roger Federer (Switzerland) and Rafael Nadal (Spain).
