The Tokyo Olympics are officially over.

The last French athletes landed on Monday, August 9 at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport, alongside the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo and Tony Estanguet, the president of the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

As soon as they arrived on the tarmac, they unfurled the Olympic flag, intoning the Marseillaise under a round of applause.

We brought the flag home.

Paris will become the second city after London to host the Olympic Games for the third time.

The year 2024 will mark the hundredth anniversary of the last Games held in the capital, in 1924.

Paris wants to organize the opening ceremony of the Games along the Seine in order to guarantee the widest possible access to the public.

It would be the first time that the ceremony was not organized in an Olympic stadium.

Organizers promise a limited carbon footprint by planning to halve Games-related emissions and offsetting more carbon dioxide than the event will produce.

The organization of the 2024 Olympic Games should cost 3.9 billion euros, according to the official Paris 2024 website.
