[Beijing Winter Olympics] Interview with China’s first-generation alpine ski champion: I want to build a ski resort in every city in the country

[Explanation] Nearly eighty years old, he has been associated with ice and snow all his life, cultivated more than 40 national champions, and participated in the construction of more than ten ski resorts across the country... The old man in front of him is China's first alpine skiing double champion-Peng Xianwu.

On August 7, the reporter met the ski champion in Harbin, Heilongjiang.

[Concurrent] Peng Xianwu, China's first-generation alpine skiing champion

In the 1965 national competition, I participated in three events, giant slalom and downhill. I won first in slalom, first in giant slalom, and fourth in downhill. Although giant slalom won the championship, there is one Regrettably, what I should get from the return is to guide my return to win the championship and the result failed.

[Explanation] Peng Xianwu is 78 years old and has been involved in skiing for 63 years.

In 1958, Peng Xianwu joined the Mudanjiang ski team. Because he was good at summing up experience in training, he soon independently developed a reverse bow-shaped cornering posture. With his outstanding ability, he was favored by Bayi ski team and participated in international competitions.

During this training, the coach felt that you should follow the method taught by the Soviet experts. I don't think it is so unpleasant. In the team, our colleagues train together. He ran faster than me in a straight line. He ran more than 11 seconds.

My straight line is more than 12 seconds. As a result, I ran the curve. I was faster than him. So I concluded that my method was correct, so I always insisted on it.

Finally, when I went abroad to compete in the first Socialist Games in 1961, when I arrived at the ski resort, everyone looked like it. I felt that he was in sync with my skating method. They were also skating like this. I was self-taught.

[Explanation] After the end of his career as an athlete, Peng Xianwu became a ski instructor and trained more than 40 ski champions across the country.

However, due to physical reasons, it is impossible to continue to train more athletes.

In the 9th Winter Games in 1999, I took two team members to the upper reaches of the Yenisei River in Russia, where they trained at the small ski resort, because the snow season was early and the training conditions there were very difficult. My waist was injured before.

A lot of problems appeared as they got older. My waist hurts. I carry the flagpost, and the flagpost athletes want to take it. I didn’t let them take it because they still have time to train. I vomited twice a total of more than a kilometer when I was carrying it. I said that after the Ninth Winter Games is over, it doesn't matter whether it is good or not.

I quit, I have to do it, I have to do it well, I can't let your child down, it's just that you don't care when I recruit the athlete, you just take care of yourself.

[Explanation] Although he can't continue to train more outstanding athletes for the country, he still cares about skiing. By chance, he participated in the construction of Beijing's first ski resort.

After becoming a coach, I was catching up with the place. It was the leader of the Sports Bureau who happened to send me to Beijing to help the Sino-Japanese ski resort. As a result, the Japanese didn't come, so I couldn't start work.

Let me go, and finally sent me there, so my first ski resort, Beijing's first ski resort, I finished.

[Explanation] Being able to do the job of building a ski resort has a lot to do with Peng Xianwu's early experience.

After Peng Xianwu retired from service, he studied mechanical technology seriously and mastered the entire machining process in three years. Together with his learning experience during work-study in Japan, he greatly helped the planning, design and construction of ski resorts.

I also noticed this when I was working-study in Japan. In 1980, when we were working-study in Japan, we were on the cable car at the ski resort. First of all, I paid attention to it when I was operating it, because China did not have it at that time. I said that China will definitely have it in the future. I will start and end it. I have entered their operating room and control courseware. After exploring this, I will know the law of its operation and the principle of its mechanical transmission. I watched a lot, including the artificial snow making at night. Some of our team members watched TV. I secretly ran up to the mountain to watch their artificial snow making. So I know this well, snow making, their way, right I have learned a lot about these aspects, so when I come back to the ski resort, I boldly can do artificial snow, this cable car, and I can directly put forward my opinions.

[Explanation] Today, Peng Xianwu has participated in the construction of more than ten ski resorts across the country.

He believes that backward equipment and fewer ski resorts are the reasons why China used to develop a slow skiing industry.

Peng Xianwu wants to build ski resorts in various cities across the country, so that more people in China can participate in skiing, and jointly promote the ski industry in China.
