The ceremonial handover of the flag took place as part of the 2020 Olympic Closing Ceremony in Tokyo at the National Stadium in the capital of Japan.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike handed the flag over to the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach, who handed it over to the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.
The next Summer Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024 in Paris.
The Russian national team won 71 medals in Tokyo: 20 gold, 28 silver and 23 bronze.
Thus, the Russians took the fifth place in the overall standings and became the third in the total number of medals.
Earlier it was reported that the parade of athletes was completed at the closing ceremony of the Olympics.
