Anna Rydenberg and Sara Malmström (Gothenburg BC) made it to the Swedish Championship final after winning the semis with two straight sets (21-14,21-18).

Once in the final, tough opposition awaited in the form of the twins, also the Swedish champions, Sanna and Tina Thurin (08 Beachvolley Club).

There was a 2-1 win in the set.

- I really think we had it in us purely "skill-wise" already last year, but I probably lacked some routine and needed last season to feel that I could actually compete at the highest Swedish level, says Malmström in a press release .

- I have played so sick for a long time now and when you find a partner who you have exactly the same mindset as all the time… it's so nice!

says Rydenberg.

But the match was a thriller where Rydenberg and Malmström lost the first set 17-21.

The pair then responded by winning the second set 21-16 - and forced the match to a third and decisive set.

The duo made an impressive effort when they managed to turn around and beat the previous champions 18-16 in the last set.

Decided over two straight sets on the men's side

David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig (Lidingö SK) are seen as two great talents in beach volleyball.

And today they showed why.

The 19-year-olds faced Simon Bohman (Gothenburg BC) and Joel Andersson (Norsjö VK) in the final and showed a game of the highest class.

They took home the victory after overtaking in two sets, first 21-12 and then 21-9.

- Wonderful!

Feels incredibly fun to win, but also to play at home.

This was our first tournament in Sweden for this year and it is always special to play in front of friends and family.

To then be able to win in front of an audience - unlike last year - gives a completely different feeling as well, the couple says in a press release.

Åhman and Hellvig won gold at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires 2018 and Lilla bragdguldet the same year.

The duo has also picked up the noblest denomination in the U18, U20 and U22 European Championships.

They are seen as future names for the 2024 Olympics and are the first reserves for the European Championships 2021, which kicks off on 11 August.

- This was a perfect charge.

We have had many good matches and had the chance to test what we have been training for so long now.

Now we hope to get the chance to show what we stand for in the European Championships.
