The Norwegians Christian Sörum and Anders Mol won the gold medal in beach volleyball at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The European champions from Scandinavia clearly defeated the Russian world champions Vyacheslav Krasilnikow and Oleg Stojanowski 2-0 (21:17, 21:18) in the final on Saturday.

The Russians had prevailed in the quarter-finals against the German pairing Julius Thole and Clemens Wickler.

In the bronze medal match, the world number one Cherif Younousse / Ahmed Tijan from Qatar won 2-0 (21:12, 21:18) against the Latvian duo Martins Plavins / Edgars Tocs.

For the first time since 2008 there is no medal in beach volleyball for the German Volleyball Association. In 2012 Julius Brink / Jonas Reckermann won gold in London, five years ago in Rio, Ludwig and her then partner Kira Walkenhorst were successful in the final.
