Since his defeat in the presidential election in November 2020, Donald Trump no longer knows how to make people talk about him.

So he goes all out, hoping to keep the flame alive with his supporters.

Thursday, August 5, the former US president crushed the American women's football team, led in his words, "by a radical group of crazy leftists", for his defeat in the semi-finals of the Olympic football tournament at the Tokyo Games.

Beaten by the Canadians (1-0), the American selection however ended on a good note Thursday, dominating the Australians 4 to 3, thanks in particular to a double from Megan Rapinoe.

"If our football team, led by a radical group of left-wing madmen, weren't 'woke'," a term denoting awareness of racial and gender injustices and used with disdain by some conservatives, "they would have won the gold medal instead of the bronze, "reacted the Republican in a statement." The woman with the purple hair played very badly and spends too much time thinking about radical left politics and not doing her job! ", he added of Megan Rapinoe, 36, double world champion and Olympic football champion.

A deep enmity between Rapinoe and Trump

Feminist activist, on the front line of the fight for LGBT + rights since her coming out in 2012, Megan Rapinoe is also very politically engaged.

The footballer had campaigned actively for Democrat Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election, but was already before one of the billionaire's pet peeves that she never hesitated to call a "white nationalist".

In case of coronation at the World Cup, neither she nor her teammates would go to the "p ... of the White House" under Donald Trump, she had notably warned in 2019. After a bitter tweet, the president had given up inviting the world champions in Washington after their victory at the Women's World Cup which took place in France.

Fallacious arguments

"'Woke' means you lose, everything that is woke goes wrong, and this is certainly the case with our football team," Donald Trump wrote in his press release.

Still, the argument is more than fallacious.

If being "woke" is synonymous with defeat as implied by Donald Trump, how to explain that Megan Rapinoe and her gang fly over the hierarchy of world women's football with notably victories at the 2015 and 2019 World Cup?

Finally, Donald Trump should perhaps have taken a closer look at the Canadian selection which defeated the Americans in the semi-finals.

He would have seen that Quinn, midfielder and centerpiece of the Reds, is a non-binary transgender athlete, the first to be a medalist at the Olympics.
