The Federation welcomes "one of the clauses of its contract" and the "failure to achieve sporting objectives" to dismiss the coach who added three continental golds and one Olympic silver.
"The FEB appreciates the work of Mondelo at the head of the team during these years, but has decided that it is time to seek a new impulse," says the statement published this Friday by the body chaired by

This is the second setback for Mondelo, which last June also fell in the quarterfinals of the Eurobasket.
On that occasion, the defeat in Valencia against Russia, not only left Spain out of any aspiration to the podium, but also the next World Cup, which will be played in Sydney in September 2022.
"We will go back to where we were"
Mondelo had acceded to the position in 2012 and since then he has directed 152 games, with a balance of 127 victories and 25 defeats, between official and friendly commitments.
During this stage, Spain climbed to the podium seven times, with three European golds (2013, 2017, 2019) and one Olympic silver (2016).
The stumble against France in Tokyo precipitated the dismissal of a technician who shortly after that quarterfinal crossing took his continuity for granted.
