5am: Disappointment for the French in the 110-meter hurdles final.

Jamaican Hansle Parchment was crowned to everyone's surprise Olympic champion in the 110m hurdles ahead of American favorite Grant Holloway on Thursday in Tokyo.

The Habs Pascal Martinot-Lagarde and Aurel Manga took 5th and 8th places respectively.

What you missed last night: Kevin Mayer still between two waters in the decathlon.

It

started the second day of his Olympic decathlon on Thursday with two decent performances but without shining, to climb to provisional 4th place. Mayer first finished the 110 meters hurdles with the 2nd fastest time for the entries (13 sec 90) but far from his record (13 sec 54), before throwing the disc at 48.08 m (6th score), again away from his record (52.38 m). After seven out of ten events, Kevin Mayer is 108 points behind Canadian Pierce Lepage and the podium, and 453 points behind the other Canadian, Damian Warner, who continues to fly over the competition. To consider a podium, Mayer must succeed in a good pole vault competition, his strong point, from 5:45 am (French time).
