Normally, there are only twelve participants in an Olympic final in pole vault.
But since the qualifying competition was disrupted by a rainstorm, which forced the organizers to take an hour-long break, it was decided that all 15 who passed 4.55 had to make it to the final - and it was a height that Angelica Bengtsson managed on her second attempt.
Demolition chaos
But the fact that as many as 15 jumpers got to be in the final made the raising schedule tougher from the start.
And it caused a demolition chaos.
Only five jumpers managed the entrance height of 4.50 in the first attempt.
Increase by 20 cm
Angelica Bengtsson also managed the height, but only in the third attempt.
The next height was two decimetres higher.
And then it became very tough for most people.
Only Ansjelika Sidorova managed the height of the first attempt, and Holly Bradshaw and Katie Nageotte were the only ones to manage the second attempt.
Recently changed coach
On the third and final attempt, Katerina Sefanidi was the only one who passed, before it was time for the field's last jumper: Angelica Bengtsson.
Nor did she make it.
Bengtsson, who changed coach less than two months ago, was pretty close on the second try - but the third failed completely.
"Not been optimal"
She came completely wrong and ran through without even jumping.
Thus, it became a 13th place in the 28-year-old's first Olympic final.
- She did not get it right.
She did not really time the reduction in the insertion of the pole and did not get the speed, says SVT Sports expert Alhaji Jeng, and explains that the troublesome charge may have disturbed her:
- It has not been optimal.
It's difficult to get a completely friction - free charge, but a season like Angelica's has made it difficult to hone and focus on details that you might want.
New coach in car accident
Bengtsson broke with the long-term coach Peter Widén during the spring.
She received help from Svetlana Romanova at a Diamond League gala and then finished with Gustaf Hultgren - who was seriously injured in a car accident shortly afterwards and could not attend the camp in Fukuoka.
Then Angelica Bengtsson chose to temporarily get help from Greg Duplantis during the Olympics.
Helena Duplantis also sat by his side during the final.
