Sofia Mattsson already made her Olympic debut in Beijing in 2008. After London and Rio de Janeiro - where she won bronze - she will step on the wrestling mat in Tokyo on Thursday for her fourth Olympics.

The Swede, who wrestles in the 53-kilo class, however, gets a real challenge directly in the round of 16.

Indian Vinesh Phogat is first seeded - and knocked out Mattsson in the first match at the World Cup in Kazakhstan 2019.

"Very difficult"

According to Sofia Mattson, however, the weight class is very open.

- In wrestling, there are only 16 places in each weight class, it is very difficult to get here, she told TT before the start of the Olympics.

- So everyone who is in the starting field is a top wrestler.

There will probably be many tight matches, so it's important to wake up and have a good day when it's time.

"Is so fun"

Since the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where it was a bronze medal, Sofia Mattsson and her partner, former wrestler Robert Rosengren, have had a daughter who has now turned almost four years old.

That it would be a fourth Olympics was therefore far from obvious.

- I can honestly say, maybe I did not think I would stand here today, says the 31-year-old.

- But I do wrestling because I think it's fun, so I felt the loss really after a while away from the mats.
