Champion wins 7 medals at the Tokyo Olympics .. "a historic event"

Australian star Emma McKeon won 4 gold medals and 3 bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, becoming the first swimmer in history and the second woman to win 7 medals at a single edition of the Olympic Games.

Emma McKeown, 27, won the gold in the 50-meter freestyle with a new Olympic record of 23.81 seconds, last Sunday, to complete the double in Tokyo after also winning the 100-meter race.

McKeown returned to the pool half an hour later to win another gold, this time with the Australian team in the women's 4x100m medley relay.

McKeown broke the Olympic record in the 50-meter heats with a time of 24.02 seconds, and repeated it in the semi-finals, recording 24.00 seconds, before continuing to shine and set a new record in the final last Sunday.

"I still feel like I'm dreaming," McKeown said. "I never expected to win two golds in one period... I'm so proud of myself."

"I grew up watching great swimmers and athletes do amazing things in Australia. I want to do something similar," she added, with huge support from the Australian team in the stands.

"It's also like a dream," said McKeown, whose father and brother competed in swimming at the Olympics.

The Australian swimmer concluded: "Growing up in this sport, it is so wonderful to be a part of it. If you work hard, enjoy what you are doing, and try to achieve your dreams, anything can happen."

McKeown also won the women's 100X4-meter freestyle relay gold, bronze in the 100X4-meter medley relay, bronze in the 200X4-meter freestyle relay, and bronze in the 100-meter butterfly for individual women.
