The JOC and the Japanese Olympic Committee have announced that Aiko Yokota, a member of the Tokyo Olympic rhythmic gymnastics group, will be replaced by Rie Matsubara due to an injury.

The rhythmic gymnastics group representative, Fairy Japan, was decided to be represented by Sayuri Sugimoto, Sakura Noshitani, Nanami Takenaka, Ayuka Suzuki, and Yokota.

The JOC announced on the 3rd that Yokota was injured during practice and will be replaced by Matsubara.

Matsubara is 27 years old from Gifu prefecture.

From an early age, he devoted himself to the competition and joined the selection team of representative candidates in 2009 with the characteristics of jumps and turns that make use of his instantaneous power.

He has participated in the 2012 London Games and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games for the second time in a row, and at the 2019 World Championships, he contributed to winning the overall silver medal for the first time in 44 years as the oldest team member.

I suffered a serious injury to my left leg during practice last January, but I participated in the team practice while continuing treatment and rehabilitation.

Rhythmic gymnastics groups take place on the 7th and 8th.
