The day started well for France with the easy qualification of handball players for the semi-finals.

He thus becomes the first man to go under 46 seconds over the distance, a month after having erased from the shelves in 46 sec 70 the world record of the American Kevin Young, 29 years old (46 sec 78 in Barcelona-1992). His great American rival Rai Benjamin finished 2nd in 46 sec 17 and the Brazilian Alison Dos Santos took the bronze medal (46 sec 72).

5:20 am: the German Mihambo titled lengthwise.

 Germany's Malaika Mihambo became Olympic champion for the first time in her long jump career thanks to a final attempt at 7.00m. She edged the American Brittney Reese (6.97 m), for her third consecutive Olympic podium, and the Nigerian Ese Brume (also 6.97 m, but a second performance worse than Reese)

5:10 am: Kenneth Bednarek best time in the 200m heats.

 American Kenneth Bednarek clocked the best time in the 200m series in 20 sec 01 and qualified for the semi-finals scheduled for the evening just like the American world champion Noah Lyles (20 sec 18). The Canadian Andre De Grasse, 2nd in the 2016 Olympics over the distance and bronze medalist in the 100m on Sunday, also passed the heats without a hitch, finishing 3rd in his race (20 sec 56).

 The French handball players qualified for the semi-finals by largely outperforming Bahrain 42-28.

The Blues have never been worried.

After the first twenty minutes of play (12-11), Guillaume Gille's men widened the gap while allowing themselves rotations to return to the locker room with a lead of seven goals (21-14).

The rest will be more serious for the Blues with either Germany, which they only beat by one goal in the first round (30-29) or Egypt, second in the other group.

The Frenchman failed to secure his ticket to the final of the 3m diving event, finishing 16th in the semi-finals.

Jandard, 24, was credited with a total of 357.85 points.

Only the first twelve of the semi-finals are qualified for the final scheduled for Tuesday.

Led by its prodigy Luka Doncic, Slovenia easily qualified for the semi-finals by beating Germany (94-70).

The Slovenes will face France or Italy in the next round, opposing each other at the end of the afternoon (5:20 pm local, 10:20 am French).

Doncic was still dominant and complete with 20 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds.
