Asher-Smith injured his back thigh during the British Championships in June but still decided to go to Tokyo and give the Olympic gold dream a chance.

In today's semifinal of 100 meters, however, she failed and ran in at 11.05, a time that was not enough for a final place.

- I was obviously not my normal self, but it has been a real journey, so I am very happy.

The most frustrating thing is that I was in the shape of my life - and I can say that with my hand on my heart, she said after the semi-final according to the BBC.

Now the 25-year-old announces that she is throwing in the towel at 200 meters.

She had hoped to repeat the success of the World Cup in Doha, but now the opposition would have been even tougher.

American Gabrielle Thomas won the second fastest 200 meter race of all time during the American competitions and is one of the favorites for the gold.

In addition, the always shapely Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is on the starting line with a fresh Olympic silver in the 100 meters.

Asher-Smith may, however, line up at 4x100 meters.
