The Dutchman, Advocaat, is the new coach of Iraq. The signing took place in Madrid

The Iraqi Football Association’s Normalization Authority announced the contract with Dutch coach Advocaat as coach of the Iraqi national team to lead it during the final stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The authority stated in a press statement that the signing took place at the headquarters of the Iraqi embassy in the Spanish capital, Madrid, in the presence of the Iraqi ambassador, Dr. Adel Mustafa Kamel, and Minister Iraqi youth and sports Adnan Drajal and Iraqi football officials.

The contract with Advocaat succeeds the resigned Slovenian coach Katanic.

The coach, Advocaat, is 74 years old and has previously coached the Netherlands national team in three different periods of time, namely in the year 1992-1994, then in 2002-2004 and later in 2017. He also trained the UAE national team in 2005 and South Korea in 2006, then he trained Russia and Serbia, but He worked as a coach with many European clubs, most notably PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord of the Netherlands, Rangers of Scotland and Zenit of Russia.

The Lions of Al-Rafidain are looking forward to obtaining one of the two promotion cards in a difficult group that includes him along with the teams of the Emirates, South Korea, Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
