Attack on a soccer team bus in Somalia, killing 5 people

Yesterday, a minibus carrying a local team in the Somali city of Kismayo was subjected to a terrorist attack, according to Somali media, which killed at least five people.

It is related to the "GCCI" team, where more than 12 players were also injured in the accident.

"They were on their way to the football stadium to play a local league match at the time of the strong explosion," Somali police officer Sadiq Mahmoud told dpa.

"We do not know the motive behind the attack. But we believe that the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement is behind it," he added.

The terrorist bombing came at a time when all the players were in the team's bus while they were moving to Jubaland to play a friendly match in preparation for the start of the new season.

And Somali media indicated that the bus was booby-trapped, and exploded in front of a police station in the coastal city of Kismayo.

The incident coincided with the start of the local football league in Jubbaland state.
