From our special correspondent in Tokyo,

Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry, the best African swimmer of all time, has she found her heir?

This July 30, 2021 in Tokyo,

Tatjana Schoenmaker

has in any case left her mark on these Olympic Games, in swimming.

Three days after winning silver in the 100-meter breaststroke, the South African this time won gold in the 200-meter breaststroke.

All in style, since she broke the world distance record, swimming in 2 minutes, 18 seconds and 95 hundredths.

Incredulous after her fabulous performance, Tatjana Schoenmaker was quickly embraced by her rivals.

She beat Americans Lilly King (2: 19.92) and Annie Lazor (2: 20.84).

First gold medal for South Africa

Tatjana Schoenmaker offers in passing the first gold medal to South Africa during these Olympic Games and the third to the South African delegation in Tokyo 2021.

At 24, the native of Johannesburg, who had already won silver at the 2019 World Championships in the 200m breaststroke, has probably not finished talking about her.
