It is noteworthy that Arab athletes were withdrawing from confronting their Israeli counterparts in sports forums, in support of the Palestinian cause, amid great controversy and division in the Arab sports street about avoiding sports confrontation with Israel, at a time when the withdrawal also continued in the current Tokyo Olympics through the Algerian Fathi Noreen and the Sudanese Muhammad Abdul-Rasoul competed in judo, before Saudi Arabia stopped Al-Qahtani’s series of withdrawals and decided to confront the Israeli player.

The past withdrawals from the Arab athletes' confrontation with the Israeli players have angered the International Olympic Committee, and a senior official in the committee, James MacLeod, said: "The committee will take action in the event of a flagrant violation of the Olympic Charter."
