Dimitrij Ovtcharov won Olympic bronze in table tennis for the second time in his career.

The 32-year-old defeated the 19-year-old Taiwanese Lin Yun-Ju 4: 3 after four match points (13:11, 9:11, 6:11, 11: 4, 4:11, 15:13, 11: 7 ) and, like in London 2012, made it onto the podium.

Ovtcharov is only the second non-Chinese to win two individual Olympic medals.

Before him, this feat was only achieved by Sweden's former table tennis genius Jan-Ove Waldner (gold 1992 and silver 2000).

Overall, it was Ovtcharov's fifth Olympic medal after silver (2008) and two bronze medals (2012, 2016) with the German team.

In addition to Ovtcharov, only the Chinese Wang Hao (team gold in 2008 and 2012, individual silver in 2004, 2008 and 2012) has won five men's medals.
