British leaders Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey finished disappointingly on Friday in sixteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.

In the first six races, sixth place was their worst result.

Bekkering and Duetz did significantly better with a twelfth, fifth and sixth place and more than made up for a fifteen-point deficit.

Saturday will be the final three regular races in the 49erFX class.

On Monday, the medal race with double points is on the program.

Battle for medals still very exciting

The battle for the medals is still very exciting, because the Spanish duo Támara Echegoyen/Paula Barcelo and the Brazilian couple Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze also have a good chance of taking first place.

The 29-year-old Bekkering and the 28-year-old Duetz have been a sailing duo since 2014. Five years ago, they finished seventh at the Rio de Janeiro Games.
