Norén is currently in joint sixth place after 15 holes played, four under par, after starting with two straight birdies.

This is when the competition has to be temporarily suspended due to the risk of thunder.

Up to leading Sepp Straka, Austria, who is ready for the day, now differs four strokes.

Straka, ranked 161st in the world and without a victory on the PGA Tour went on an impressive 63 strokes and has two kinds of lead to a trio of twos, including Thomas Pieters, Belgium.

Has finished playing

The competition's other Swede, Henrik Norlander, has also finished playing.

The round of 68 strokes after a strong finish with two birdies on two of the last four holes received the following rating from Norlander:

- I'm pretty happy.

I thought I hit the ball pretty badly but towards the end of the day it was good and putted pretty well.

- What is positive is that the last four were really good while the other 14 were quite half bad but I still come in at minus 3.

He said this while the thermometer again pointed to over 30 degrees and the humidity made golf polo shirts sit like a second skin on the players.

However, Norlander, who began his golf career in the United States via college games in Georgia, does not see the weather as a major challenge.

Instead, it is about trying to find the right mix of conservative and cautious play while daring to be aggressive in order to fight for a medal.

Soft greens

The course at Kasumigaseki Country Club, just over 70 km north of the Olympic Village in Tokyo, has been closed since last spring to prepare for Olympic golf.

It provides excellent external conditions but would hardly be seen as one of the most difficult on the PGA Tour.

- It's quite comfortable.

There are quite areas and large areas, perfect conditions.

The greens are quite soft and with this heat it will be difficult to make them very hard, Norlander assesses before the continuation.
